history
Experyment Science Centre in Gdynia was proposed by the municipal authorities of Gdynia as part of the “creActiveNET” project financed by the INTERREG program, the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk, and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. It is one of the first science centres in Poland, and the first one in the region, to implement an innovative concept of promoting science through interactive exhibitions and educational activities.
The facility opened on 1st June 2007 in the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park. Initially, it was part of the Gdynia Innovation Centre, a budgetary unit of the Municipality of Gdynia. In March 2012, by the resolution of the Gdynia City Council, the Centre became a separate unit with the status of a local government’s cultural institution.
On 26th July 2010, the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in Gdynia started an expansion project, including the construction of a new building for the Experyment Science Centre: a modern exhibition space combined with a conference centre.
The weekend of 7th–8th September 2013 saw Experyment’s grand opening of in the new setting. After two and a half years of development, the exhibition space increased sevenfold and gained laboratory rooms. In the first weekend, 5 000 people visited the new exhibition! In the following years, the Centre has presented numerous temporary exhibitions, expanded the permanent one and developed many new formats for educational, cultural and scientific activities.

WHY?
We create a friendly environment for expanding knowledge and provide opportunity to grow to individuals and the entire community. We want to inspire everyone to create a good future together, with science and sustainability in mind.
HOW?
Promoting science – We promote knowledge from various fields of science, ecourage a scientific career, and educate in an attractive and accessible way.
Inspiring to accept challenges and explore the world – We encourage you to ask questions, experiment freely and search for non-standard solutions. In our opinion, learning is more about the process then the outcome.
Active education – We promote and employ modern teaching methods involving new technologies and tools. We invite teachers, educational communities and students to discuss the future of school and education.
Communicating science – We facilitate a dialogue between the society and the world of science, we help get across the latest findings: their effects and relevance to our future, we confront facts with opinions, and endorse critical thinking.
Supporting education – We build positive associations and emotions in the process of learning. We spread passion, enthusiasm and curiosity. We provoke questions. All this to create a level playing field for everyone.
Sparking curiosity about the world – Everything starts with interest: regardless of age and at every level. We encourage lifelong learning with a vast array of methods.
Cooperation – We create a national and European platform for knowledge exchange through our membership in various associations and active participation in development projects and cultural activities.
WHAT?
Interactive exhibitions – There are five thematic sections. Each interactive stand invites you to play and learn through experience. On top of that, we offer lesson plans, visitor’s paths, guided tours, aided exploration of our exhibits, and science shows.
Educational workshops for pre-schoolers, students and organised groups – We run creative scenarios using various tools, including elements of gamification, quizzes and apps that students readily recognise. Our workshops are an opportunity to carry out numerous experiments on your own without the pressure to obtain a specific result.
Family programmes – AKADEMIA EXPERYMENTU (EXPERYMENT ACADEMY – lectures for kids), WARSZTATY RODZINNE (FAMILY WORKSHOPS – popular science for families), EXPERYMENCIAKI (EXPERYMENTEES – general development classes for children aged 1–3) – We encourage teamwork and intergenerational cooperation by creating a friendly space for learning and playing.
Scientific events – We organize special events: NOC NAUKOWCÓW (part of the EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT) for families, NAUKOWELOVE for adults, PRZEPIS NA DOBRĄ FORMĘ (RECIPE FOR STAYING SHARP) for seniors and ScienceCom for youth and students.
Programmes for teachers – We run various initiatives dedicated to teachers: WARTO SIĘ SZKOLIĆ (workshops), EXPERT EXPERYMENTU (EXPERYMENT EXPERT), AMBASADOR EXPERYMENTU (EXPERYMENT AMBASSADOR) as well as an annual conference titled EDUKACJA W AKCJI (EDUCATION IN ACTION).
Programmes for adults and seniors – SCIENCE CAFÉ, CIEKAWI ŚWIATA (CURIOUS ABOUT THE WORLD) – We run internal and external lectures and workshops for adults and members of the University of the Third Age and senior clubs.
Reaching out – We organise workshops, science shows and picnics in Poland and abroad (Romania, Moldova, Sweden, Denmark).
